Cladding bracket fasteners: slot vs hole, thermal movement, finish

A cladding bracket enquiry is not a mixed screws→bolts→nuts warehouse SKU. Before a unit price is useful, lock how the print mixes slotted and round holes, which way free play is meant to run, and the finish band against the subframe. This page is a buyer desk for stone or panel cladding brackets on steel or aluminum subframes.

Define · what this RFQ is for

Use this guide when the detail shows cladding brackets or similar rails fixing stone or panel cladding to a steel or aluminum subframe, and the holes on the bracket are slotted, round, or both. You still own thermal design and structural sign-off; we confirm fastener diameter, length, grade, and finish against the print and quantity band.

Pair with the load-path primer, drawing handoff, and undercut stone RFQ when the panel side also uses undercut anchors. Then open Enquire / RFQ.

Each row below is a desk check. Missing rows stay Open — we do not invent grades, certificates, or plant metrics on this site.

Copy into RFQ notes
  1. Slot vs round hole on the bracket Marks which holes clamp hard and which allow play. Mixing types without a note is a common cause of seized brackets or loose faces after install.
    • Email example: Bracket holes: 2× Ø12 round (fixed) + 2× 12×30 slot (sliding) per Rev C
    • If missing: mark each hole on the print — Open until typed
  2. Slot long-axis direction Must match the movement vector on the elevation (horizontal thermal, vertical settlement, or install-only play). Wrong axis locks the joint you meant to free.
    • Email example: Slot long axis: horizontal (thermal along façade length)
    • If missing: ask for movement note on the elevation
  3. Nominal diameter / length Sets clamp stack through bracket + subframe thickness (and washer pack if called). Write the print callout, not a catalog guess.
    • Email example: M12 × 40 mm through bracket + 8 mm aluminum rail (washer stack TBD)
    • If missing: Open — no final price
  4. Grade / finish band Environment in buyer words: coastal, urban pollution, inland dry. Prefer A2 / A4 or coated carbon when the print or project note locks it; leave blank rather than inventing a grade online.
    • Email example: Finish band: A4 preferred (coastal note); confirm on RFQ
  5. Washer / isolation stack Dissimilar metal (e.g. stainless fastener into coated steel) or a soft cladding face may need isolation washers or a called stack. If the BOM is silent, mark Open — do not assume a brand pad on this site.
    • Email example: Isolation: nylon washer under flange; steel washer under nut (print note W-3)
  6. Qty band & use Discussion band is enough for the first reply: mock-up brackets, one elevation set, or project lot.
    • Email example: Qty band: mock-up 80 pcs → project lot TBD after sample approval

Slot purpose (say which one you mean)

Two common intents look similar on a drawing and quote differently if confused:

  • Install-tolerance slot — short play so the bracket can be aligned on site, then snugged; not sized for seasonal façade movement.
  • Seasonal / thermal movement slot — longer free play along the movement vector; remaining holes stay round (fixed) so the panel does not walk out of plane.
  • Unknown — state Open and attach the elevation note or a marked photo of the bracket face.

Agree · before we number

Until the following are aligned, treat any figure as discussion only:

  • Controlling revision on the bracket / node detail (see drawing handoff)
  • Whether each slot is for install tolerance only or for seasonal / thermal movement — write that sentence in the RFQ so torque and washer notes match the intent
  • Torque / snug-tight language only after hole type (01–02) and finish (04) align
  • Samples, packing, and private-label marking only after diameter/length (03) is clear

We do not invent ISO, CE, IATF, plant area, or ranking badges here. Project documents that matter to the RFQ are shared privately when relevant.
