A2 vs A4 on coastal cladding bracket RFQs

When stone or rainscreen brackets sit in a marine or coastal atmosphere, the RFQ grade line (A2 ≈ 304-family vs A4 ≈ 316-family) changes the quote path as much as slot vs hole. Lock the atmosphere note, the print callout, and isolation stack before any unit price is useful — not a warehouse “stainless screw” SKU swap.

Define · what this RFQ is for

Use this desk when overseas buyers specify cladding or facade brackets near salt air, harbourside, or a named coastal exposure class, and the print must choose A2 or A4 (or buyer-named 304/316-family equivalents). You own corrosion design and engineer sign-off; we confirm grade/finish language against the controlling revision, diameter × length, and qty band.

Pair with cladding bracket slot vs hole (G5) when adjustment windows matter, and stone-on-steel isolation (G9) when pads sit in the stack. Then open Enquire / RFQ.

Discuss · fields that change the quote

Each row below is a desk check. Missing rows stay Open — we do not invent salt-spray hours, PREN claims, or certificates on this public page.

Copy into RFQ notes
  1. Atmosphere / exposure note Coastal, harbourside, inland mild, or a buyer-named exposure class on the print. Vague “outdoor stainless” invites dual A2/A4 quotes.
    • Email example: Exposure: coastal marine note per project facade spec Rev B
    • If missing: Open — do not default A4 on this site
  2. Grade callout on the print Write A2 or A4 (or 304-/316-family) on the controlling revision. Mixed “SS / A2 or A4” without preference splits the quote.
    • Email example: Grade lock: A4 (316-family) all bracket fasteners Rev C
    • If both appear: mark which zones are A2 vs A4
  3. Finish / passivation note Grade is not finish. If passivation or electropolish is required, name it separately — do not treat “A4” as a surface process.
    • Email example: Finish: mill + buyer passivation note (Open EP)
  4. Slot vs hole + diameter × length Coastal grade still needs geometry. Slot axis, hole size, and grip after washers — see G5. Length follows stack-up, not a shelf chart.
    • Email example: M8 × 30 A4; vertical slot on bracket wing (Rev C)
  5. Isolation / washer stack Stone-on-steel or painted subframe often needs isolation. Pad brand stays buyer-named or Open — see G9.
    • Email example: Stack: A4 fastener + buyer EPDM pad 2 mm
  6. Qty band & destination Mock-up panel set vs project lot; destination market for packing notes. Discussion band is enough for the first reply.
    • Email example: Qty band: mock-up 200 pcs → project lot TBD · dest AU coastal

What must appear on the print

  • Explicit A2 or A4 (or 304-/316-family) — not bare “stainless”
  • Atmosphere / coastal note when it drives the grade choice
  • Finish / passivation as a separate line when required
  • Controlling revision — see drawing handoff

Agree · before we number

Until the following are aligned, treat any figure as discussion only:

  • Controlling revision locks A2 or A4 (or marks Open with a preference rule)
  • No invented PREN, salt-spray hours, or ISO/CE badges on this page
  • Slot/hole and isolation fields settled or linked (G5 / G9) in the same thread
  • Samples and private-label marking only after grade + diameter × length are clear

We do not invent certificates, plant area, or ranking badges here. Project documents that matter to the RFQ are shared privately when relevant.

FAQ · A2 vs A4 coastal cladding

Is “outdoor stainless” enough for a coastal cladding bracket RFQ?

Usually no. Name A2 or A4 (or the 304-/316-family equivalent) on the controlling revision, plus an atmosphere or coastal note when exposure drives the choice. Vague outdoor language invites dual quotes and resubmits.

When should an RFQ lock A4 instead of A2 for cladding brackets?

When the buyer print or facade specification calls for higher chloride resistance — typically coastal, harbourside, or a named marine exposure — and engineering owns that callout. Do not upgrade A2 to A4 on this public desk without the print. Inland mild exposure may stay A2 when the revision says so.

Does choosing A4 replace naming finish or passivation?

No. A2/A4 is a grade family callout. Passivation, electropolish, coating, and washer/isolation notes are separate lines. Treat them independently on the RFQ and the print.

Can one RFQ mix A2 and A4 on the same facade package?

Yes, when zones are explicit (for example A4 on seaward elevation brackets, A2 inland). Ambiguous “A2/A4 OK” without zone ownership often splits the quote. Lock zones on the BOM or mark Open with a preference rule.

What should I send so Dashitou can review the grade line cleanly?

Open Enquire / RFQ, then email the PDF/STEP or marked sketch to shizhanhao6@gmail.com in one thread. Include atmosphere note, A2 or A4 lock, diameter × length, slot/hole if relevant, isolation if relevant, qty band, and destination. Skim G5 and G9 when those desks apply. No cart; no list prices on this site.
